Because of the low resolution of online text, readers tend to scan rather than read everything from top to bottom. Make your text easily scannable by breaking up text using descriptive headings and bullet points.
There are plenty of screenshots on their site so people know what the service looks like when used.. In a way, these are social proof because they show you how other people have used MailChimp’s service. You can imagine how you’d use it in the future. There are also plenty of logos, adding more to social proof.
The transmission of electronic mail within the Internet uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), defined in Internet standards RFC 5321 and RFC 5322, and extensions like RFC 6531. The mailboxes may be accessed and managed by users with the Post Office Protocol (POP) or the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) with email client software that runs on a personal computer, mobile device, or with webmail systems that render the messages on a screen or on paper printouts.
When you consider that around 97% of traffic to your website never makes a purchase, it’s clear there is a huge opportunity to strengthen your sales cycle in an effort to win sales from the majority of your visitors
Hey Mike, most business people and marketers are on the fence about “cold emailing,” so you’re not alone. But there is a fool proof way to succeed at sending emails to a list of purchased data: 1) purchase data from a reputable vendor 2) have a clean list 3) use the right software 4) tailor and segment your list and content. We do send emails to purchased lists and tried using Mailchimp in the past. They blocked us from sending. Only company we’ve had tremendous success with is a business called Clickback. They cleaned our data on import so we didn’t have to go to a third party vendor. We deploy over 100K emails for one campaign with them – which we couldn’t do before, and receive tremendous results. By far, best software on market for this type of sending. Check them out. Could save you some time by not having to send small batches out for each campaign
Hi Matt, a really great article which pulls out many strengths. I’m a wedding photographer and I’m researching new ways to funnel visitors by their current; challenges, position in planning their wedding and then addressing short term buyers vs longer cycle buyers who are researching etc. Do you have any advice or examples which could be useful even if a different industry? Thanks Pete
When I first wrote this article in 2011, I mentioned how the marketing copy for Crazy Egg’s heat-mapping feature could have been stronger by better explaining how the tool helps customers to increase conversions. While this information is clearer now thanks to the detailed visuals and simple copy layout that allows the reader to skim and scan — it could be better by explaining a bit more.
It wasn’t immediately clear, though, that Netflix selected a plan for me. It’s smart to have a plan selected by default. They might do that on purpose to obscure that they’re selecting the most expensive plan.
Some mail services support a tag appended to the local-part, such that the modified address is an alias to the unmodified one. For example, the address firstname.lastname@example.org denotes the same delivery address as email@example.com. RFC 5233, refers to this convention as sub-addressing, but it is also known as plus addressing or tagged addressing.
space and “(),:;<>@[\] characters are allowed with restrictions (they are only allowed inside a quoted string, as described in the paragraph below, and in addition, a backslash or double-quote must be preceded by a backslash);
The funnel can also point out where improvements need to be made within the sales process. These may be as simple as implementing additional sales training or ensuring that sales representatives put sufficient focus on all steps of the sales process.
If you managed to get all the way through each step – then you’ve now got a well-thought out sales funnel that converts. But sales funnels are not simply ‘set and forget’ mechanisms. They require constant iteration (thats the fancy word for trial and error). Analyse each step of your sales funnel and work out at which points people are failing to move forward then revise that step by A/B testing different messaging, layouts, images and offers.

I am one of their more established affiliate resellers. I also pay them the most I possibly can every single month, subscribing to their Etison Suite Plan. I am also a member of Russell Brunson’s Inner Circle ($25K per year) and The Two Comma Club.
As I just said to @kevanlee:disqus, to clarify, the reason I don’t like popups is when they restrict access to content. Email signups in nav bars, sidebars, and footers all make perfect sense to me. I know they work, but that doesn’t negate the need to handle things tactfully and care about user experience.
This example sample comes courtesy of my coworker who started signing up for Zipcar, got busy, and had to abandon the form. As a result, the email calls her back to the website with some lighthearted copy that nudges her in the right direction, and also reminds her of the value of using Zipcar — being economical and helping the planet.
“Hey Max! Your new program works like magic. I am all over the globe currently talking with people in Australia and Asia! Love it! And with all honesty, people are joining me because I tell them I have a system (your system) that will teach them how to prospect on social media.”
Landing pages and blog posts aren’t your only options for engaging people, and in fact they’ll rarely stand alone. For instance, if someone opts in for your free-chapter download, you’ll want to use the email address they provided to email them with information on how to buy your full book. You may even want to create a series of emails, depending on how much additional engagement you think your audience will require.
3) Have a clear call to action (i.e. a big, bold button that’s clear to the user that “this is the next thing I should click on” — on the homepage it could be “order now” or “learn about the benefits”)
There’s a better solution: It’s not impossible with sales funnel management automation. Set up your system with the response you want, and it will be ready to send it immediately to any interested prospect—even the one who contacts you on Saturday at 3 am. As captured leads pass down the funnel, your sales automation platform can send added personalized emails that are just right for each moment.
It’s easy to see that an engaging newsletter is a win-win. You get to send out valuable content to current customers and prospects who have an interest in your industry; in return, you’re able to maximize one of the most powerful, personal marketing channels available on the cluttered mess that is the internet.
Thanks Jawad. I will run with the Facebook Live video idea you shared. With my eye-popping 1080 p videos, successful blogging tips and good old eBook and audio book releases as enticements to boost those opt in rates, I see smooth sailing going forward. Really smooth sailing.
Put signage around your store that encourages shoppers to use their phones to join your email list. You can also put your Text-to-Join information on your business card, on flyers, brochures, and direct mail pieces.
We serve the live casino industry. Lucrative offers draw players in, but our live hosts make them stay. Marketing campaigns bring us business and we wouldn’t live without them. We wouldn’t excel without our sales staff, though.
They’re a well trusted site that work with top brands and well worth joining through our link for a £3 cash bonus when signing up. Make sure you complete your profile too. Plus their site is a lot more snazzy than a lot of the others…
Sign up as a publisher on the Awin network, check their offers blog or browse the merchant listings to find something you think your friends would be interested in, grab your affiliate link and share it. If someone buys (can be within up to 90 days) using your link you’ll make a nice commission.
In practice, the form validation of some web sites may reject special characters such as “+” in an email address – treating them, incorrectly, as invalid characters. This can lead to an incorrect user receiving an e-mail if the “+” is silently stripped by a website without any warning or error messages. For example, an email intended for the user-entered email address firstname.lastname@example.org could be incorrectly sent to email@example.com. In other cases a poor user experience can occur if some parts of a site, such as a user registration page, allow the “+” character whilst other parts, such as a page for unsubscribing from a site’s mailing list, do not.
I especially like the portion on the “about” page… most people leave this as a wasted opportunity. I see this on a majority of our client sites that the about us page is the second, or third most visited site (behind the homepage) yet most people leave it under-utilized.
