1) Remove the advertising — it’s distracting to visitors, risks taking them off of your website and out of your sales funnel, and it hurts credibility (i.e. most of the big name ecommerce website don’t have 3rd party ads because the product is the “ad”)
Hey nice post , but everyone’s talking pretty much about service-based companies, info-products, what about funnels for actual physical products ? and not fancy ones , but the ones fueling the huge growth of Shopify -you know , the small guys selling t-shirts….any effective funnels on that end ?
There’s a better solution: Build out an automated email follow-up campaign that speaks directly to this objection. Any time you encounter this problem, you can send that prospect information that seems designed just for them. A multi-month educational campaign may reduce their content anxiety and nurture them toward a sale. Yes, it’s work up front, but once finished, this campaign will work for you always.
Sandwich boards are nothing new, but what about using one in a new way? Place one on the sidewalk in front of your storefront or office to advertise your newsletter and offer a reward to anyone who signs up. Invite customers into the store to enroll, or give them the web address where they’ll find your opt-in form.
If that sounds like too much technical information for you, there is an easy button – Google’s advertising platform is as simple as signing up, enabling (on Blogger) or pasting a small code on your website, and allowing the advertisements to automatically roll in. The problem with this program is that you don’t get any commissions – and you don’t get to control the ad content. This is useful for some, but powerful users will want something a little more robust.
You have lots of options to test here: including a freebie, adding social proof to your opt-in form, creating a “long” form as found on places like QuickSprout, or keeping things relatively minimal, as we do on the Help Scout blog.
Awareness – at this stage, the prospect learns about your existing solution, product or service. He might also become aware of his problem that he needs to solve and the possible ways to deal with it.
SumoMe also contains a free suite of tools to help you build your email list, which includes a popup tool called “List Builder”, as well as a full-page “Welcome Mat” that displays when a visitor lands on your site that you can use to capture emails from visitors.
The reason to put them behind an email opt-in (besides the obvious benefit of growing your list) is to qualify the people signing up; only the most interested customers will bother with an email form to access the content that suits their needs.
With a foundation of opted-in contact information stored in their database, marketers can send out promotional materials automatically using autoresponders—known as drip marketing. They can also segment their promotions to specific market segments.
Transactional emails are usually triggered based on a customer’s action with a company. To be qualified as transactional or relationship messages, these communications’ primary purpose must be “to facilitate, complete, or confirm a commercial transaction that the recipient has previously agreed to enter into with the sender” along with a few other narrow definitions of transactional messaging. Triggered transactional messages include dropped basket messages, password reset emails, purchase or order confirmation emails, order status emails, reorder emails, and email receipts.
I think Harvest could stand to improve its pricing page. You actually pay more by adding more users or by upgrading your plan to access new features. I would recommend they pick one metric. Otherwise it’s too many things to think about. Simplifying the pricing would help their conversion rate.
It’s all good having pop-ups on your website, but I think it discourages users by basically saying “no, stop reading, give me your email address”. But then again, if you have, say for example, valuable content that you are giving away for free and put a sign up box on the page (NOT A POP UP), then I think that is perfect, it will convert more.
Our review: PopulusLive are a favourite among the survey taking community because of their decent payout. It can take some time to reach the threshold and surveys run out quickly once they have enough respondents.
Help Scout has changed a lot since the last time we covered them. I actually love their redesign. They offer a demo (they’re actually testing a shorter version). I love the little designs and animations. It feels kind of emotional. It’s cute.
Etsy – If you like to create arts and crafts, you can sell them on Etsy. It’s completely free to open an Etsy store. You simply sign up, post pictures of your creations and starting selling. You can choose your payment option, but PayPal is generally the easiest. Etsy makes it easy to sell and keep track of your inventory. There is a small listing fee and they take 3.5% of every sale you make.
If your priority is to make sales, then naturally your website would work better if it was designed for that purpose. Consider if you’ve built your current website with that in mind. Perhaps you didn’t. You may have simply let your web designer take control and made it look nice, without a clear purpose.
you are writing a lot about pop ups for building the list. I agree with you and do the same. However, from January 10, Google promises to start punishing the mobile sites with pop ups. In your opinion, how it will affect ecommerce sites and pop up providers?
